CVO Announces List of Contestants for Vienna Classic Violin Competition

15 February 2024

The preselection process for the Classic Violin Olympus International Competition continues to press on, with further updates being released on a regular basis.

Following the official list of participants that was released earlier this year, organisers are now pleased to confirm the contestant pool that will be going head-to-head at the Vienna Classic Violin Competition, which will be taking place at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna from the 1st to the 5th of April 2024.

This contest will be the second entry in the preselection series, with the selected violinists going head-to-head in front of a 5-person jury board composed of various globally-acclaimed artists from around the world.

The participants will be competing over a number of rounds, the last of which will be streamed live online, challenging each other for a €35,000 prize fund, as well as the chance to win entry to the invite-only Classic Violin Olympus, which will be held in Dubai, UAE, from the 22nd to the 28th of April 2025, featuring €310,000 worth of monetary prizes as well as other awards and opportunities for all finalists there.

Listed in alphabetical order, these are the 20 participants who have been selected to take part in the Vienna Classic Violin Competition:

  • Misako Akama
  • Leonhard Baumgartner
  • Clarissa Bevilacqua
  • Stefan Burchardt
  • Sofija Dodig
  • Yuki Hirano
  • Tao-Yuan Hsiao
  • Amia Janicki
  • Lorenz Karls
  • Yerassyl Khamit

  • Woohee Lee
  • Ruifeng Lin
  • Mariusz Patyra
  • Yoanna Ruseva
  • Eva Ter-Sarkisova
  • Michael Usov
  • He Xu
  • Zhang Zou

The organising committee took pains to note that the number of registrations, and the level of the applicants, was particularly impressive, making the selection process a truly challenging task.

In the case that any of these 20 individuals find themselves unable to participate, the organising committee have also released the names of the four participants numbered 21 to 24 who are being offered a position as reserves. These are:

  • On-You Kim
  • Hongfei Lyu
  • Milena Pioruńska
  • Aoi Tomioka

Meanwhile, due to the unique nature of the Classic Violin Olympus preselection process, those candidates who were not selected for this competition are still able to apply for any of the four remaining contests in the series, and be in with the chance of reaching the Grand Finale in Dubai in 2025.
