Simon Trpčeski performs with orchestras such as London Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Orchestre National de France, Tonhalle Zurich, New York Philharmonic, Cleveland orchestra, Chicago Symphony, NHK Symphony, China Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic and New Zealand Symphony. He regularly gives solo recitals in cultural capitals like New York, Paris, Munich, Prague, Sao Paulo, Sydney, Beijing, Tokyo, and London where he was recently Artist in Residence at Wigmore Hall. He performs at prestigious festivals including Verbier, Bergen, the Baltic Sea Festival, Mecklenburg Vorpommern, Robecco, Aspen, Cabrillo, Ravinia, Blossom and BBC Proms.
2022/23 season saw Simon in concerts at the Tonhalle Zurich, Sion Festival and a Macedonian tour starting at his father’s village Zbazhdi, with “Makedonissimo”, as well as returns to the London, WDR Cologne, Chicago, Minnesota and Colorado Symphonies including NDR Hanover debut broadcast live with Rachmaninov 3. He also performed European tours with the RPO/Petrenko and Prague Philharmonia/Bebeselea and took part at the WDR Symphony concert with Macelaru at the European Cultural Capital of Timisoara.
He performed a highly anticipated trio concert with Vengerov and Isserlis at the Victoria Hall in Geneva. Prior to that, the duo with Maxim Vengerov brought the concert halls on their feet in London, Paris and New York.
2023/24 Season finds Simon as Artist in Residence with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo as well as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, reunites with Gianandrea Noseda for both Brahms concertos with the London Symphony, visits to Detroit, Vancouver, Seattle and Oregon Symphonies, as well as Seoul, West Australian and Tasmanian orchestras. He gives recitals at the Mainz International Piano Series as well as Monte Carlo, Milan, Geneva, Lausanne and Glasgow.
He is especially enthusiastic about his world music project “MAKEDONISSIMO”, devised with composer Pande Shahov, which celebrates the music and culture of his native Macedonia. After series of successful concerts including Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, Tonhalle Zurich, Ludwigsburg Festspiele, Lille Festival, Katowice Radio Concert Hall, Belgrade, Ottawa and South Korean Tour, the band continues to give concerts internationally this season and will tour Zagreb, Timisoara, Monte Carlo, Glasgow, Sofia in 2023/24.
Its Macedonian premiere was performed in front of 10.000 people at an open air free concert at his native city of Skopje in September 2022.
The project also received its world orchestral premiere with the Tonkunstler Orchestra at the full Musikverein in Vienna in March 2023, presenting another dimension of this unique project to worldwide audiences.
Trpčeski has recorded prolifically.
In 2019, a disc of solo Russian repertoire named “Tales from Russia” with ONYX, received unanimous critical acclaim.
He embarked on a collaboration with LINN Records in 2020, the first disc being “MAKEDONISSIMO”, which gained rave reviews from the international press, such as: “Editor’s Choice by Presto Classical” – “Listening to this joyous, madcap album from the Macedonian pianist and friends feels like eavesdropping on an uproarious late-night jam-session…. it’s life-affirming stuff; BBC Music Magazine’s double 5 stars - “an immensely enjoyable, foot-tapping listen ... imaginative, intricate and wonderfully warm-spirited…. joy of a disc.”, “Cult Recording” by Rondo Magazine, “The result is breathtaking” by “Concerti” as well as ‘’Gramophone’s Frequently as delicate as Mozart chamber music”.
In 2020 he recorded the Shostakovich piano concerti with Janacek Philharmonic and Macelaru, as well as the Trio no.2, for Linn to great critical acclaim.
His debut recording (EMI, 2002) received the “Editor’s Choice” and “Debut Album” at the Gramophone Awards. In 2010 and 2011, his interpretations of Rachmaninov’s complete concertos were recognised with “Classic FM”, Gramophone “Editor’s Choice,” and “Diapason d’Or” accolades.
His recording for Onyx Classics of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos No. 1 and 3 again won him the “Diapason d’Or” in September 2017.
His Scriabin Sonata no.5 was selected by EMI Classics on a special star pianists Scriabin album edition.
His latest recital album, “Variations” with music by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, has received yet another unanimous acclaim being selected as one of the Best Beethoven Solo Recordings of 2022 as well as one of the Best Recital Recordings of 2022 of the “BBC Music Magazine”, as well as accolades with “Gramophone” (UK), “Choc Classica” (France), “FonoForum” (Germany) and “Amadeus d’or” (Italy).
His first chamber music album, called “ Friendship”, recorded during the covid-challenging times with his friends from Makedonissimo, was released with Linn Records in April 2023 to another great critical acclaim.
His latest recording includes the monumental Brahms Concertos with the WDR Symphony Cologne and Cristian Macelaru, released in December 2023, already being praised as Cd of the Week at “London Times”, Concerto choice at “BBC Music Magazine” as well as nominated in the Concerto Category for the “Deutschen Schallplatten kritik”.
Trpčeski has been fully dedicated to the educational activities. He was Professor at the Faculty of Music in Skopje. His warm and friendly personality continues to inspire younger generations around the world, giving masterclasses in cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, Berlin, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Auckland, Wellington, Oslo, Stavanger, Dublin, Warsaw, Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Belgrade.
Together with his brother Jovan, as part of his varied interests and talents, he has composed several successful and popular Childrens’ and pop songs.
With the special support of KulturOp – Macedonian cultural and arts organisation – Trpčeski works regularly with young musicians in Macedonia to cultivate the country’s next generation of artists. Born in Macedonia, Trpčeski studied with Boris Romanov. He was previously a BBC New Generation Artist and was honoured with the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award in 2003.
